Moms on Board (MOB) has appointed new leadership, including Executive Director Mayra Garcia Lopez, to enhance family-friendly initiatives in El Paso. Recently, MOB celebrated the opening of the All-Abilities Playground at Ascarate Park.

A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning stages of bringing an interactive play area at Gallegos Park along Bosque Road was hosted on Wednesday.

A new playground will be added to Ascarate Park. The structure will be built where an older playground currently exists.

“An all-ability playground is a playground basically for everybody, so that means not only children,” said Leyla Zeidan, co-founder of Moms on Board (MOB), which is spearheading the project.”

As a mother to two young children, I can tell you the name of almost every kid-friendly establishment in El Paso. We have all of the ingredients for a great city to raise a family. However, I believe there is always progress that can be made for younger children and those who may require extra attention and needs.

A local Facebook page is growing fast, and is already having a positive impact on the borderland. That said, it's about to undergo a major change.

What started as an effort by two El Paso moms to bring more shade to public parks has become an organic movement that has sparked more area parents to become involved in their community.

An El Paso online group has morphed into a full-fledged nonprofit organization, and it’s using its mom-and-dad muscle to push for better, safer and more fun amenities for families citywide with much success.

A local parents organization, Moms On Board, is working with El Paso County to create a new atmosphere there.
